Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) and potassium dideuterium phosphate (DKDP) are widely used in a variety of industrial applications because of their superior UV transmission, high damage threshold and high birefringence.
These two crystals are usually used as second, third and fourth frequency doubling devices of Nd: YAG lasers (at room temperature). In addition, they also have the characteristics of high electro-optic coefficient, so they are also used to make Q switches.
